Overview

This 2-days seminar with a hands-on lab session in the Evonik laboratories will be an excellent opportunity for lab managers and senior scientists from formulation development, scale-up, production or product and process development who have specific interest in gastro-intestinal targeting and delayed release formulations with EUDRAGIT® polymers. Also for participants from academia the event may be of high relevance.

International experts and guest speakers from industry and academia will present relevant topics and industrial case studies. Furthemore, the agenda will provide room for expert discussions and know-how exchange. Attendees will be able to directly apply their learnings from this seminar to their daily work.

Dr. Miriam Robota
Head of Formulation Services
Evonik Health Care

Dr. Miriam Robota is Head of Formulation Services within Evonik Operations GmbH in Darmstadt. In this function, she is responsible for the business development and implementation of formulation development service projects with focus on pharmaceutical solid oral dosage forms. In her function, she is further giving technical consultation and trainings on the Evonik Health Care product portfolio.

She received her degree in Pharmacy in 2009 at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany. After an internship at Merck Selbstmedikation GmbH in Darmstadt, Germany in the quality control of solid dosage forms, Dr. Robota completed her Ph.D. studies in Pharmaceutical Technology in 2014 at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany. The topic of her thesis was the development, characterization, and in vitro testing of biodegradable nanoparticle formulations for treatment of neurological diseases.

Following to her Ph.D. thesis, she started her industrial career in 2014 at Evonik as Manager Technical Service for Western Europe, followed by several functions within Evonik over the years, such as heading the Formulation Development Laboratory, Application Technology Laboratory and Production of clinical sample manufacturing for clinical studies phase I and II. During this time, Dr. Robota gained substantial knowledge in the application of EUDRAGIT® within the formulation development of solid oral dosage forms with immediate and modified release.

Dr. Robota is regular speaker at workshops and international conferences and is author of several publications.
Felix Hofmann
Director Formulation & Application Services EMEA

Felix Hofmann is director of the Formulation & Application Services EMEA at Evonik Health Care. He is based in Darmstadt, Germany and is responsible for customer-centric and holistic technical support for the health care industry.

Felix began his career in 2002 at Röhm (now Evonik) as a lab technician and in 2015 completed a degree in process engineering specializing in pharmaceutical technology at the University of Applied Science in Bingen, Germany.

Throughout his time at Evonik, Felix has held multiple roles as a senior and principal scientist, handling customer requests, customer projects and process troubleshooting during scale-up and production of coated particles or tablets. He also has experience working on complex customer projects including GMP and HPAPI requirements.

Felix has published several papers and posters on the application of pharmaceutical methacrylates in the formulation of solid dosage forms and is co-inventor of several patents.
Wolfgang Weisbrod
Principal Scientist Technical Service EUDRAGIT®

Wolfgang Weisbrod is Principle Scientist and working in the Technical Service for Western Europe at Evonik Health Care.

From 1973 to 1976 he did a training as chemical assistant at former Roehm GmbH in Darmstadt, including theory and practice in polymerization and application technology.

From 1976 to 1990 he worked for the Technical Service laboratory for EUDRAGIT® polymers and developed particle coating technologies with pharmaceutical polymers using fluidized bed technology.

From 1990 to 2006 he was technical supervisor, responsible for coating trials in the EUDRAGIT® Technical Service laboratory. He developed coating formulations and was responsible for world wide troubleshooting in upscaling and production of tablet and particle coatings.

Wolfgang Weisbrod is regular speaker at international seminars and conferences in Europe, America and Asia.

He has published several papers and posters on the application of pharmaceutical methacrylates in the formulation of solid dosage forms and is co - inventor of several patents.
Hans Bär
Head of Global Oral Drug Delivery Services

Vita
Hans is responsible for the global project portfolio of Evonik’s oral drug delivery business. He has extensive experience in the use of functional polymers and oral drug delivery technologies to protect the API, improve targeting and boost drug performance.

One core area of expertise is the use of drug delivery technologies for precise colonic targeting. Hans is the author and co-author of several patent applications and a dozen scientific articles and posters about the application and formulation of pharmaceutical applied polymethacrylates for the preparation of oral solid dosage forms.

He has a degree in pharmaceutical process engineering from the Technical University Bingen, and a Master’s in pharmaceutical medicine from the University of Dusiburg-Essen.
Bill Nicholson
Sales Manager

Bill Nicholson is an Area Sales Manager for the Pharma Solids Group of GEA Process Engineering. He is a Mechanical Engineer by training and his career in the pharmaceutical industry is approaching 30 years.

For the first 13 years of his career, he worked for a major UK multi-national pharmaceutical company in project engineering, production engineering and team management positions.

For the past 17 years Bill has worked in sales management for 3 major European pharmaceutical equipment suppliers; the last of these being GEA, where he also holds the role of product manager for tablet film-coating technology.
Dr. Maria Montero Mirabet
Head of New Technology and Biomaterial Platforms

Maria Montero Mirabet is Project Manager New Products & Materials at Evonik Health Care.

Maria studied Technical Chemistry in Girona (Spain) and Chemical Engineering in Darmstadt (Germany). She holds a Masters Degree in Food Biotechnology and a Ph.D in Biotechnology from the University of Girona.

In her previous position at HIPRA Scientific SL in Amer, Spain, she was responsible for managing projects for developing biological vaccines for animals.
Dr. Muhammad Safadi
CMC Pharma Consultant

Dr. Muhammad Safadi holds an M.Pharm. and a Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He completed a post-doctoral fellowship in pharmaceutical chemistry at the Center for Drug Delivery Research, University of Kansas, where he worked on prodrug design to improve the physicochemical properties and chemical stability of pharmaceuticals.

He subsequently joined the Innovative CMC group at Teva Pharmaceuticals, where he led pre-formulation and formulation development processes, and manufacturing of clinical supplies of specialty products.

This was followed by a move to Taro Pharmaceuticals, where he headed the department for generic formulation development and the clinical manufacturing pilot plant.

Upon his return to Teva Pharmaceuticals, he held several positions including heading Specialty Pharmaceutics R&D and CMC Writing, as well as heading the Analytical Development department. He led innovative formulation development and drug delivery systems of NCEs in the Discovery and Product Development unit.

He is currently working as a consultant in fields of pharmaceutical development, specifically CMC. Dr. Safadi is the co-author of numerous scientific papers and the co-inventor on several patents.
Dr. Marcel Arndt
Head of Formulation Development & Analytical Services

Dr. Marcel Arndt is head of the Formulation Development & Analytical Services team within Evonik Nutrition & Care GmbH in Darmstadt. In this function, he is responsible for the conduction of customer projects from first feasibility scale to clinical trial supply.

He received his degree in Pharmacy in 2008 at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany. After an internship at Merck KGaA in Darmstadt, Germany in the preformulation of solid oral dosage forms, Dr. Arndt completed his PhD studies in Pharmaceutical Technology in 2012 at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany. The topic of his thesis was the development of biorelevant dissolution media simulation the dogs GI tract and the bridging from dog to human PK data.

Following to his PhD thesis, he started his industrial career in 2012 at STADA Arzneimittel AG (Bad Vilbel Germany) as Manager Clinical Research. As of 2014 he joined Evonik Industries AG as Head of Dissolution Laboratory and soon after took also over responsibility as Deputy Head of Quality Control Clinical Trial Supply. Since 2016 he is in co-function Head of Quality Control Clinical Trial Supply at Evonik Nutrition & Care.

Dr. Arndt is author and co-author of several publications and patents.
Priya Poduval
Technical Director

Priya Poduval is with Dober Chemicals, Illinois, USA, as the Technical Director of the Chematic® Cleaner Division since March 2017, but has been associated with them since 2014 through Evonik in India, where she worked previously, as Technical Service Manager.

She has a Masters degree in Pharmacy (Quality Assurance with Major in Pharmaceutical Science) from India and had started her career in the Pharmaceutical Industry with Production department, followed by Technical Transfer and MSAT, having a total of 8 years of experience in this field.

She is currently based in Frankfurt, Germany.
Dr. Anne Seidlitz
University of Greifswald

Anne Seidlitz studied pharmacy from 1998 to 2003 in Greifswald and obtained her license as a pharmacist in 2003.

From 2003 to 2005 she worked as a team member and later on team leader in the galenics department of the Arzneimittel Werke Altona AG in Hamburg.

She returned to Greifswald University in 2005 and received a Doctor of Natural Sciences in Pharmaceutical Technology in 2009.

Since then, she has been working as a postdoctoral fellow in the Biopharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology department of the University of Greifswald.

In 2015 she was granted the degree of a habilitated Doctor in the Natural Sciences.

Her main research area are dosage form development with a focus on 3d-printed formulations and also parenteral dosage forms including injections and implants with a focus on (bio-)relevant dissolution testing.
Dr. Jessica Müller-Albers

Dr. Jessica Müller-Albers joined Evonik’s Health Care business line in 2010 and is currently working as Strategic Marketing Director for oral solutions.

Before taking over the current position she was group leader for drug delivery where she focused on the development and analytics of new oral and parenteral platform technologies for the pharma and food industry as well as the development of cell culture media.

She held different positions in application service and formulation development of oral excipients and worked for a contract manufacturer where she gained experience in developing solid and semi-solid dosage forms, product transfer, manufacturing of clinical-trial medication, GMP and high potent handling.

She received her degree in pharmacy from the University of Halle/Saale and her Ph.D. from the University of Duesseldorf where she specialized on melt extrusion of poorly soluble drugs.

Moreover, she authored several research papers, book chapters and patents.
