Overview

This one-day event will be an excellent opportunity for lab managers and senior scientists from formulation development, process optimization, scale-up and production. Participants will learn about enabling formulation approaches and advantageous manufacturing setups for oral and parenteral drug delivery with modified release. Also for participants from academia the event may be of high relevance.

International experts and guest speakers from industry and academia will present relevant topics, industrial case studies and insights to novel technologies. Furthermore, the agenda will provide enough room for expert discussions and know-how exchange. Attendees will be able to directly apply their learnings from this seminar to their daily work.

Dr. Kristina Manhardt
Director Project Business Injectable Formulations & Manufacturing Services

Dr. Kristina Manhardt is Director Project Business Injectable Formulation & Manufacturing Services EMEA at Evonik Nutrition & Care GmbH, Germany. In this position she is responsible for business development and project coordination related to parenteral formulation projects.

She joined Evonik 2014 as Regional Sales Manager.

After completing her pharmacy studies at the University of Graz, she earned her PhD at the University of Leipzig in the field of pharmaceutical technology with a focus on tissue engineering and worked on the production of biodegradable microparticulate cell carriers.

From 2012 to 2014, she was Head of Pharmaceutical Development / Process Transfer and Deputy Manufacturing Director at RSP Laupheim with a focus on development and manufacturing of solid oral dosage forms.

She then joined Evonik as Sales Manager for Southern Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

In 2017 she took over her recent position as Director Project Business and since then works closely with the two Evonik sites in Birmingham (AL, US) and Burnaby (Vancouver, CAN), respectively, focusing on development and manufacturing of complex parenteral formulations.

Ms. Manhardt is a regular speaker at workshops, as well as author of several scientific publications.
Dr. Miriam Robota

Dr. Miriam Robota is Head of Formulation Services within Evonik Operations GmbH in Darmstadt. In this function, she is responsible for the business development and implementation of formulation development service projects with focus on pharmaceutical solid oral dosage forms. In her function, she is further giving technical consultation and trainings on the Evonik Health Care product portfolio.

She received her degree in Pharmacy in 2009 at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany. After an internship at Merck Selbstmedikation GmbH in Darmstadt, Germany in the quality control of solid dosage forms, Dr. Robota completed her Ph.D. studies in Pharmaceutical Technology in 2014 at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany. The topic of her thesis was the development, characterization, and in vitro testing of biodegradable nanoparticle formulations for treatment of neurological diseases.

Following to her Ph.D. thesis, she started her industrial career in 2014 at Evonik as Manager Technical Service for Western Europe, followed by several functions within Evonik over the years, such as heading the Formulation Development Laboratory, Application Technology Laboratory and Production of clinical sample manufacturing for clinical studies phase I and II. During this time, Dr. Robota gained substantial knowledge in the application of EUDRAGIT® within the formulation development of solid oral dosage forms with immediate and modified release.

Dr. Robota is regular speaker at workshops and international conferences and is author of several publications.
Peter Blakey

Peter has a BA in Chemistry and an M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry, both from Oxford University.

He started his career in R&D at the papermaking company Wiggins Teape, but after a year he left to join a small family business.

Then, in 1986 he joined Dow Chemicals as UK Sales Manager for their wide range of specialty chemicals, including HPMC.

In 1990, he joined Luzenac (part of the Rio Tinto group), the world’s largest manufacturer of talc, as Managing Director of their newly established UK office. Subsequently, he took on the role of Business Development Manager for their European operations, based in Toulouse, France.

After a couple of short spells with two UK chemical distribution companies, Peter joined Degussa (now Evonik) in 2001 as an International Key Account Manager and Regional Manager for Northern Europe. Since then he has undertaken a variety of commercial roles for Evonik’s Health Care Business Line – currently he is working as the Regional Sales & Business Development Manager for the Nordic Countries.
Nina Hauschildt
Principal Scientist Formulation & Application Services

Nina Hauschildt is a principal scientist in the Formulation & Application Services EMEA at Evonik Health Care. She is based in Darmstadt, Germany, and in this role, she has been giving technical support to customers in North and Western Europe with a focus on excipients for oral drug delivery for over a decade. She joined Evonik 2010 as Senior Scientist.

Since mid-2022 Nina also supports customers in the application of Evonik’s new, non-animal derived collagenoid – the VECOLLAN®.
Nina holds a bachelor’s degree in pharmaceutical engineering, obtained at the University of Applied Science Ostwestfalen-Lippe, Germany, and a green belt certificate. Prior she also completed 3 years apprenticeship as skilled chemical worker.

Thanks to her extensive experience formulating complex oral dosage forms using functional excipients, Nina frequently works on formulation and process challenges in all application areas.

She regularly gives seminars and is the co-author of several scientific papers.
Bill Nicholson

Bill Nicholson is an Area Sales Manager for the Pharma Solids Group of GEA Process Engineering. He is a Mechanical Engineer by training and his career in the pharmaceutical industry is approaching 30 years.

For the first 13 years of his career, he worked for a major UK multi-national pharmaceutical company in project engineering, production engineering and team management positions.

For the past 17 years Bill has worked in sales management for 3 major European pharmaceutical equipment suppliers; the last of these being GEA, where he also holds the role of product manager for tablet film-coating technology.
Priya Poduval

Priya Poduval is with Dober Chemicals, Illinois, USA, as the Technical Director of the Chematic® Cleaner Division since March 2017, but has been associated with them since 2014 through Evonik in India, where she worked previously, as Technical Service Manager.

She has a Masters degree in Pharmacy (Quality Assurance with Major in Pharmaceutical Science) from India and had started her career in the Pharmaceutical Industry with Production department, followed by Technical Transfer and MSAT, having a total of 8 years of experience in this field.

She is currently based in Frankfurt, Germany.
Dr. Thomas R. Tice

Thomas Tice is internationally recognized for his research and product development of complex parenteral, drug delivery dosage forms based on bioabsorbable polymer excipients. He is known for his accomplishments involving injectable, extended-release microparticles made with bioabsorbable lactide/glycolide polymers designed for systemic and local drug delivery. He was a team leader and core inventor to develop the first commercial, injectable, extended-release microparticle product. This product, a one-month LHRH formulation indicated for the treatment of prostate cancer (Decapeptyl® SR), is still on the market today. He has also served on various US Pharmacopeia expert committees for 17 years, and is currently on the General Chapters Dosage Forms Expert Committee and Excipient Joint Committee.

At Evonik, Dr. Tice, provides scientific support to Evonik’s innovation, sales, product development, research, intellectual property and M&A teams. He earned his BSc in Chemistry and PhD in Biophysics from Syracuse University, New York. He held a postdoctoral fellow position at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in Microbiology. He holds 48 US patents with many foreign equivalents and has more than 180 publications, presentations, and invited lectures to his credit. He flew experiments on two Space Shuttle flights.
Natashia Mai Yde Larsen
PhD Student

Natashia Mai Yde Larsen is currently a Ph.D. student at the Department of Pharmacy, University of Copenhagen where she is working on developing physiological relevant in vitro models simulating different areas of the gastro-intestinal tract.

Along with this her research area is within the development of targeted release formulations for orally delivered probiotics. As educational background she has a M.Sc. in Biotechnology Engineering from DTU.
