Overview
We cordially invite you to join us for a
Scientific Symposium to celebrate the opening of our new GMP facility for the development and manufacture of lipids in Hanau, Germany.
To mark the opening of our new facility, we are hosting a Scientific Symposium in which technical experts from Evonik and academia will address some of the industry’s most widely discussed topics related to the development and manufacturing of lipids and novel lipid-based therapeutics.
In addition to technical presentations, the symposium will include time for questions and discussions, as well as a private tour through our new, state-of-the-art facility.

Thomas Endres is an expert in polymeric excipients for oral and parenteral dosage forms and has extensive experience in the management of innovation and customer projects.
Thomas joined Evonik in 2012 and has held roles as project manager in the R&D department in Germany, and as biomaterials manager in the U.S.
He studied macromolecular chemistry before completing his doctoral research in polymer chemistry at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of Marburg in Germany.
Dr. Ulrich Klöckner
Global Project Manager
Evonik Health Care
Vita
Dr. Ulrich Klöckner joined Evonik in 2017 and has held several R&D roles within the Evonik Health Care business. In his first positions as a laboratory head he was responsible for the process development and scale up of APIs and lipids. As a project manager in the CDMO business, he managed and led projects focusing on APIs and lipids manufacturing under cGMP.
Since 2022, as a global project manager, Ulrich is responsible for the project management and serves as the technical contact of Evonik Health Care’s lipid business. Ulrich is an organic chemist by education and obtained his PhD from the University of Tuebingen in Germany. As a postdoctoral fellow, holding a DFG scholarship, he went to the University of Urbana Champaign in Illinois, USA. Ulrich is author of numerous research papers and patent applications.
Dr. Sabrina Metze
Head of QC Operations
Evonik Health Care
Vita
Sabrina Metze joined Evonik in 2019 as manager of analytical development projects for the Health Care business. In this role she was responsible for analytical development and transfer activities for customer and internal projects, from early development to commercial production. Since 2022, she has been head of QC operations.
Sabrina studied life sciences at Leibniz University in Hannover, Germany where she specialized in bioprocess engineering and the chemistry of natural compounds. She then completed a PhD, also in Hannover, on the scalability of single-use bioreactors using Process Analytical Technology (PAT) tools.
During her studies, and before starting at Evonik, she worked on several projects with the biotech company Sartorius Stedim Biotech.
Dr. Lauren Longobardi
Global Project Manager
Evonik Health Care
Vita
Dr. Lauren Longobardi joined Evonik in 2019 and, since 2021, has been a global project manager within Evonik’s Health Care business line.
In her previous position, Lauren worked as an R&D lab head, where she gained experience in chemical route scouting, process development, and scale-up manufacturing of pharmaceutical ingredients.
Lauren was trained as a synthetic inorganic chemist. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in Canada, where she focused on FLP small molecule activation and the synthesis of novel heterocyclic compounds. She then moved to Germany in 2017 for her postdoctoral studies at the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung before starting her career at Evonik.
Prof. Dr. Holger Frey
Professor of Organic and Macromolecular Chemistry
Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz
Vita
Holger Frey studied Chemistry at the University of Freiburg. Following a stay at Carnegie Mellon-University with Kris Matyjaszewski (Pittsburgh, USA) he obtained his Ph.D. at the University of Twente (NL).
After his Habilitation (University of Freiburg, 1998) on polycarbosilanes he moved to the Johannes Gutenberg-University in Mainz in 2001. Since 2003 he holds a full professorship in Organic and Macromolecular Chemistry there.
His research is directed at novel linear and branched functional polymer structures, microreactor-based syntheses and biomedical materials in general. Specifically he studies and develops epoxide-polymerizations as well as carbanionic polymerizations.
To date he and his research group have published 370 peer-reviewed original research articles and reviews (H-index 71 according to google scholar). He is an associate editor of the RSC Journal “Polymer Chemistry”.
