Overview

This free workshop, which includes a practical session in Evonik’s laboratories, is an excellent opportunity for engineers and scientists in research and development, business development managers, procurement managers, strategic marketing managers and anyone who wants to learn more about the versatility of Evonik’s portfolio of medical device solutions and technologies.

Over two days, Evonik's experts and guest speakers from the industry will introduce you to our leading solutions that will enable you to improve your medical device development and product performance. These experts will share the latest innovative material developments, advanced processing technologies and breakthrough solutions with nature-identical materials and functional polymers, including our non-animal-derived collagen Vecollan®, our biocellic® biosynthetic cellulose, the renown Resomer® bioresorbable polymers, Endexo^®® surface modification and much more.

On the second day, you will have the opportunity to explore medical device themes first-hand through demonstrations in our practical session in Evonik’s laboratories, engage in expert discussions, and exchange valuable knowledge. Attendees will be able to apply what they learn in this workshop directly to their daily work. Felix Hofmann

Felix Hofmann is director of the Formulation & Application Services EMEA at Evonik Health Care. He is based in Darmstadt, Germany and is responsible for customer-centric and holistic technical support for the health care industry.

Felix began his career in 2002 at Röhm (now Evonik) as a lab technician and in 2015 completed a degree in process engineering specializing in pharmaceutical technology at the University of Applied Science in Bingen, Germany.

Throughout his time at Evonik, Felix has held multiple roles as a senior and principal scientist, handling customer requests, customer projects and process troubleshooting during scale-up and production of coated particles or tablets. He also has experience working on complex customer projects including GMP and HPAPI requirements.

Felix has published several papers and posters on the application of pharmaceutical methacrylates in the formulation of solid dosage forms and is co-inventor of several patents.

Dr. Maria Montero Mirabet

Maria Montero Mirabet is Project Manager New Products & Materials at Evonik Health Care.

Maria studied Technical Chemistry in Girona (Spain) and Chemical Engineering in Darmstadt (Germany). She holds a Masters Degree in Food Biotechnology and a Ph.D in Biotechnology from the University of Girona.

In her previous position at HIPRA Scientific SL in Amer, Spain, she was responsible for managing projects for developing biological vaccines for animals.

Jeannette Ho

Jeannette Ho is a Senior Director at Evonik and leads our surface modification business. She joined Evonik in 2019 as part of the Company’s acquisition of the Endexo^® surface modification technology platform from Interface Biologics, a Canadian-based company. She co-founded Interface Biologics in 2001, where she held several senior positions including Director of R&D, Director of Operations and Vice President of Product Development. As part of the senior leadership team of Interface Biologics, Jeannette played a key role in the development and commercialization of the Endexo^® technology. She has extensive expertise across material science, polymer science, biomaterials, manufacturing processes, and medical device development, and holds a B.A.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Waterloo and a M.A.Sc. from the University of Toronto. Jeannette is the inventor on 12 patents, the author of 4 peer-reviewed publications, and is located in Toronto, Canada.

Dr. Cécile Boudot

Dr. Cécile Boudot is head of the EMEA Application Technology team at Evonik Health Care in Darmstadt, Germany.

In this role she is responsible for technical consultancy for pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and medical devices customers in the EMEA region with a focus on EUDRAGIT^®, EUDRAGUARD^® and RESOMER^® products.

Cécile holds a diploma in mechanical engineering from Arts et Métiers ParisTech in France and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany.She then completed a Ph.D. in medical and technical engineering at the Technical University of Munich in Germany.

Cécile joined Evonik in 2017 as lead of the Medical Devices Laboratory in Darmstadt, where she was responsible for technical customer support, customer projects and several product launches for the medical devices market. She has since taken over the additional responsibility for pharmaceutical and nutraceutical applications.

Cécile is a regular speaker at international conferences and is author of several publications.

Dr. Uwe Beekmann

Vita

Uwe Beekmann is a pharmacist by training and has worked in R&D at JeNaCell, an Evonik Company, since 2018. Uwe’s area of expertise focuses on the development of biosynthetic cellulose-based products for application in wound dressings, implants, and drug delivery systems.

He obtained his PhD in Pharmaceutical Technology at the Friedrich-Schiller-University of Jena, Germany, with a thesis on biosynthetic cellulose for use in anti-inflammatory drug delivery systems.
