Overview

This free two-day workshop offers an excellent opportunity for lab managers and senior scientists involved in formulation development, process optimization, scale-up, and production to deepen their understanding of EUDRAGIT® polymers and their diverse applications, including immediate, enteric, sustained release, and solubility enhancement in oral drug delivery.

Throughout the workshop, Evonik's oral drug delivery experts will cover all essential aspects, from polymer functionalities to advanced formulation designs. On the second day, participants will gain hands-on experience with EUDRAGIT® polymers in the Evonik laboratories, providing a unique insight into practical applications.

The agenda also includes opportunities for expert discussions and knowledge exchange, enabling attendees to apply their newfound insights in their daily work. Whether you are new to coatings for solid oral dosage forms or a seasoned formulation expert looking to refresh your knowledge of EUDRAGIT®, we look forward to welcoming you to this workshop.

Experts

Felix Hofmann
Director Formulation & Application Services EMEA

Felix Hofmann is director of the Formulation & Application Services EMEA at Evonik Health Care. He is based in Darmstadt, Germany and is responsible for customer-centric and holistic technical support for the health care industry.

Felix began his career in 2002 at Röhm (now Evonik) as a lab technician and in 2015 completed a degree in process engineering specializing in pharmaceutical technology at the University of Applied Science in Bingen, Germany.

Throughout his time at Evonik, Felix has held multiple roles as a senior and principal scientist, handling customer requests, customer projects and process troubleshooting during scale-up and production of coated particles or tablets. He also has experience working on complex customer projects including GMP and HPAPI requirements.

Felix has published several papers and posters on the application of pharmaceutical methacrylates in the formulation of solid dosage forms and is co-inventor of several patents.
Nina Hauschildt
Principal Scientist Formulation & Application Services

Vita
Nina Hauschildt is a principal scientist in the Formulation & Application Services EMEA at Evonik Health Care. She is based in Darmstadt, Germany, and in this role, she has been giving technical support to customers in North and Western Europe with a focus on excipients for oral drug delivery for over a decade. She joined Evonik 2010 as Senior Scientist.

Since mid-2022 Nina also supports customers in the application of Evonik’s new, non-animal derived collagenoid – the VECOLLAN®.
Nina holds a bachelor’s degree in pharmaceutical engineering, obtained at the University of Applied Science Ostwestfalen-Lippe, Germany, and a green belt certificate. Prior she also completed 3 years apprenticeship as skilled chemical worker.

Thanks to her extensive experience formulating complex oral dosage forms using functional excipients, Nina frequently works on formulation and process challenges in all application areas.

She regularly gives seminars and is the co-author of several scientific papers.
Thomas Rupp
Senior Scientist Application Technology Excipients

Thomas Rupp is senior scientist in the Formulation & Application Services EMEA at Evonik Health Care in Darmstadt and responsible for the technical consultancy in the regions Eastern Europe, Germany, Italy, and the Eastern Mediterranean States.

From 1988 to 1991 he made an apprenticeship as a dental technician, followed by an apprenticeship as pharma worker at Bayer AG in Leverkusen, where he was employed until 1999 and working in the production of oral solid formulations.

During that time, he also attended the master school and in 1999 he graduated as a Bachelor Professional of Pharmaceutical Production (CCI). He then worked as shift and later operation master in the OROS® production of Bayer AG in Leverkusen.

In 2002 Thomas Rupp moved to the company Novartis Wehr (Germany), where he oversaw production of Carbamazepine OROS® as responsible operational master until end of 2003.

In 2004 he changed to the company SwissCo in Switzerland and worked as a production assistant in the formulation of solid food supplements until he moved to Röhm GmbH (Today Evonik Health Care) in Darmstadt in November 2004.

Thomas Rupp is regular speaker at workshops and international conferences.
Boris Lempka
Formulation Scientist Customer Projects

Boris Lempka is currently working as formulation scientist for solid oral dosage forms in the customer project department of Evonik Health Care in Darmstadt and responsible for paid customer projects including clinical trial manufacturing and HPAPI requirements.

From 2001 to 2004 he did an apprenticeship as chemical worker at Röhm GmbH & Co.KG (Today Evonik) in Darmstadt.

In 2004 he started working in the process technology department where he was responsible for catalyst screening trials for monomers and intermediates.

In 2007 he changed to a pilot plant for monomers and intermediates at the site in Worms where he worked as head of the analytical lab. His responsibilities were lab organization, HPLC, GC and titration.

Since 2013 Boris is working for the formulation application service department for EUDRAGIT® polymers in Darmstadt. He is regular speaker at workshops.
Juan Tomé-Alcalde
Technical Support Manager EMEA

Juan Tomé Alcalde is currently Technical Support Manager in Evonik's Formulation & Application Services group and located in Darmstadt, Germany. He provides technical support for oral and parenteral polymers in the EMEA Region.

From 2002 to 2010 he attended the School of Pharmacy, UCM, Madrid, Spain, for undergraduate and graduate studies, achieving two master degrees in Pharmacy and Industrial Pharmacy & Galenics.

Juan started his career at Evonik in 2007 in the drug delivery department. From 2007 to 2010 he worked as part of an internship, then as Pharmacist and Head of Evonik's Particle laboratory until 2013, co-inventing several patents.

Between 2013 and 2018 he transferred to Evonik Japan and worked as a Technical Support Manager with focus on complex parenterals.

Since his return in, he has been providing technical support to customers from different countries in the EMEA region.
Dr. Seyedreza Goldoozian
Head of Application Technology

Dr. Seyedreza Goldoozian is Head of the Application Technology Excipients laboratory within Evonik Health Care in Darmstadt, Germany. In this function, he is responsible for the technical consulting of pharmaceutical and nutraceutical applications in development and production and giving trainings on the Evonik Health Care product portfolio (e.g., EUDRAGIT® and EUDRAGUARD®) in the EMEA region.

Seyedreza studied Pharmacy in Iran, afterwards he received a doctoral degree (Dr. rer. nat) in pharmaceutical technology from Freie Universität Berlin, Germany.

Prior to joining Evonik in 2022, Seyedreza held several R&D roles at Procter & Gamble (Austria) and Corden Pharma (Germany), where he worked on the formulation development and process optimization of solid oral dosage forms.
Dr. Steven Smith
Head of Customer Projects

Dr Steven Smith is the Head of Customer Projects within Evonik Operations GmbH. He is based in Darmstadt, Germany and is responsible for the coordination of complex customer projects in the formulation development with focus on pharmaceutical oral dosage forms.

Steven began his career in 2004 at Röhm (now Evonik) as a lab technician and studied chemistry at the TU Darmstadt, where he received his Master of Science degree in 2013. Steven completed his Ph.D. studies in Chemistry at the TU Dortmund in 2017. The topic of his thesis was the design, synthesis, and characterization of covalent and covalent-reversible kinase inhibitors.

Following his Ph.D. thesis, he worked as an operative consultant in the Life Science Industry with stints at Fresenius Kabi, Clariant, Boehringer Ingelheim, Biotest, and Sanofi, before joining Evonik Operations GmbH in his current position.
